TWO LUCKY BANGALOREANS FLY TO SINGAPORE FOR FREE

Winners of Singapore Tourism Board’s ‘Fly on Us’ campaign

Two Bangalore residents Sumukh Desu (16) and Sunil Murthy (23) were declared winners of free return tickets to Singapore as the Tourism Board’s ‘Fly on Us’ campaign concluded last week. The online campaign received a remarkable response from Bangalore’s discerning and net savvy travellers who are always keen to explore new travel and lifestyle experiences.

Singapore is a favoured destination for Bangaloreans with approximately 60,000 Bangaloreans visiting the island nation in 2008 – an approximate 10% increase over 2007. Both Sumukh and Sunil have visited Singapore earlier, however they are looking forward to new experiences with their family and friends.

The 16 year old Sumukh, whose father invited him to the contest, was undeniably excited while commenting on his win, ““This was a pleasant surprise! My Dad informed me of about this and it took time to believe him. Ever since I visited Singapore in 2006, I have wanted to go back to the beautiful and modern city. I can now visit new attractions like The Singapore Flyer and the Vivo City Mall, where I will shop a lot! I’m keen on going to Tanglin Village to see the revamped colonial clusters and if my dad accompanies me, we are surely going to Rochester Park to wine and dine.”

Sunil has decided on travelling during the popular Great Singapore Sale 2009 which is running till July 26th with his mom and his best friend. An evidently amazed Sunil said, “My mom is absolutely delighted, especially because we will be travelling during the Great Singapore Sale. When I first got the call from Singapore, I assumed it was a prank, but when I saw the Singapore code it actually sunk in. I was really excited and could not believe my luck!”

Singapore’s annual shopping sale witnesses a markdown of upto 70% on national and international brands, spas, attractions and more. It is no wonder Sunil’s mother is excited about her trip to the decorated streets of Singapore next month.

Apart from Singapore’s signature events, the island nation has a lot to offer the vibrant youth of India. From a buzzing nightlife in the 24 hour party zone to a vast array of adventure activities like Reverse Bungee jumping and Asia Paranormal Investigators; Singapore’s unexplored night spots and attractions have become a favourite amongst young Indian travellers. A feast awaits food lovers with options like Singapore’s signature Black Pepper Crabs and a multi sensory experience at Tiger Live – an entertainment centre dedicated to Singapore’s very own Tiger beer.

Mr. Kiran Bhandari, Area Director, Southern India, Sri Lanka & Maldives, Singapore Tourism Board said, “We congratulate Sunil and Sumukh on their win. Be it the Great Singapore Sale or the hidden secrets of Singapore, we are confident that their second trip to Singapore will be a pleasant surprise. The compact island of Singapore has plenty of activities to keep every spirited visitor busy throughout their stay and we are sure Sunil and Sumukh will return with lively stories to tell.”

Over the last year, Singapore witnessed over 7.78 lakh visitors from India alone. For 2009, Singapore Tourism Board has launched a robust S$ 90 million Building On Opportunities to Strengthen Tourism (BOOST) initiative which is aimed at helping the Singapore tourism sector ride through these challenging times. After the success of the Fly on Us campaign, many more campaigns are set to follow under the BOOST initiative for Indian market.
