MERU CAB WINS NASSCOM IT User Award 2009

Once again the company won this award in the Travel Vertical for second time in a row

Meru wins it the 2nd time in a rowMeru Cab, India’s largest and favourite metered radio cab service has once again won the NASSCOM-CNBC IT User Award 2009 in the Travel vertical in recognition of the pro-active and holistic approach to IT adoption at Meru Cabs and the seamless alignment of IT with the business strategy.

Meru Cab’s Chief Technology Officer Mr Nilesh Sangoi received the award on behalf of the company at the ceremony held on December 2nd 2009 at the Taj Landsend, Bandra, Mumbai along with Vice President Operations Mr Ronald Rozario & Vice President Marketing & Sales Mr Gavin D’abreo.

Mr. Gavin D’abreo, Vice President Marketing & Sales in his note to the gathering said, “We are the youngest company to have received this award for the second year running. It gives us great pride to get rewarded for setting standards in a fragmented and unstructured industry. We use technology both for internal process management as also to deliver services to customers. Use of IT as the key enabler in our strategy allows us to build scale and improve service levels to customers. We thank NASSCOM and CNBC for recognising us for two consecutive years.”

Meru Cabs has been in the forefront of usage of technology for the radio cab industry. Some of its initiatives have included:
• ‘Dial-a-Meru’, ‘SMS-a-Meru’, ‘Meru-on-the-Net’
• GPS and GPRS systems being used in all cabs for real time vehicle tracking
• Centrally controlled speed alarms
• Usage of a Mobile Communication Terminal (MCT) inside each cab for two way data communication between the cab and the contact centre
• Each cab is also fitted with a tamper-proof digital fare meter as per tariff set by each state transport authority. Every fare of a Meru is digitally transmitted back to the Control Centre and is recorded for reference.
• Meru Cabs also has a “Lost and Found” tracking system in place so that any item left behind inadvertently in a Meru cab can be traced to the vehicle that the reporting customer has used.
